Overview

Antithymocyte globulin (rabbit) is a purified, pasteurized polyclonal antibody preparation derived from rabbits immunized with human T lymphocytes. It acts as an immunosuppressant by binding to multiple T-cell surface antigens, leading to the depletion of T lymphocytes through complement-mediated cytotoxicity and apoptosis. This results in suppression of the host immune response, making it effective for both prophylaxis and treatment of acute rejection in kidney transplant recipients. The drug is used in conjunction with other immunosuppressive agents and is administered intravenously[1][3][5][6].
