Overview

Antivipmyn is a polyvalent antivenom composed of F(ab)2 and Fab fragments derived from immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies. It is specifically designed to neutralize the venom of various viperid and elapid snakes, including those found in Africa and Latin America. The drug works by binding to venom toxins with its antigen-binding fragments (Fab), thereby neutralizing their toxic effects and facilitating their elimination from the body. By removing the Fc fragment during production, the risk of hypersensitivity reactions such as anaphylaxis or serum sickness is reduced compared to whole IgG antivenoms. The F(ab)2 fragments have improved tissue distribution and faster clearance than whole IgG, allowing for effective neutralization of venom components both within and outside vascular spaces[2][7].
