Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Antofloxacin is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibacterial agent of the fluoroquinolone class. It acts primarily by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and transcription. Developed as a new molecular entity in China, it is used to treat infections such as acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and acute pyelonephritis[2][3][5][7]. Its mechanism of action is similar to other fluoroquinolones but with distinct pharmacokinetic properties.
