Overview

Antrocaryon micraster seed aqueous fraction (ASEA) is a natural plant extract derived from the seeds of the tropical rainforest tree *Antrocaryon micraster* (Anacardiaceae). It is primarily studied for its antiarthritic and antioxidant properties. ASEA is obtained by partitioning a 70% ethanol Soxhlet seed extract into an aqueous phase, resulting in a fraction rich in polyphenolic constituents and phytosterols. In preclinical models of rheumatoid arthritis, such as Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA)-induced arthritis in rats, ASEA has demonstrated significant activity by inhibiting protein denaturation, oxidative stress, inflammatory cell infiltration, and synovium injury. Its in vitro antiarthritic potency has been reported to be significantly higher than that of diclofenac sodium.
