Overview

Antrodia cinnamomea mycelia is a product derived from the mycelium of the medicinal mushroom *Antrodia cinnamomea* (also known as *Antrodia camphorata*), which is endemic to Taiwan. Traditionally, the wild fruiting bodies were used to treat conditions like liver disorders, fatigue, and intoxication. Due to the rarity and protected status of the host tree, the mycelia are now commonly cultivated using methods like submerged or solid-state fermentation to provide a sustainable source. The mycelia contain a complex mixture of bioactive compounds, including triterpenoids, polysaccharides (such as galactomannan and antrodan), benzenoids, and ubiquinone derivatives. These components are believed to be responsible for its wide range of reported pharmacological activities, including immunomodulatory, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential anti-cancer effects. It is primarily marketed as a nutraceutical or dietary supplement for immune and liver health. One branded mycelial product, Antromax®, has received a "no objection" letter from the US FDA for its New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) status.
