Antrodin C is a bioactive maleimide derivative isolated from the medicinal fungus *Antrodia cinnamomea* (also known as *Antrodia camphorata*). It is primarily investigated for its potent anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, particularly in the context of neurodegenerative diseases. In preclinical models of Alzheimer's disease, Antrodin C has demonstrated the ability to significantly reduce amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaque accumulation and glial cell activation. Its therapeutic potential is attributed to its capacity to modulate microglia morphology and enhance the perivascular clearance of Aβ deposits. Additionally, it has been shown to regulate oxidative enzymes in plaque-associated microglia, suggesting a multi-faceted approach to mitigating neurodegeneration and improving cognitive-related behaviors such as nesting.
