Overview

Anu taila is a classical Ayurvedic polyherbal medicated oil used primarily as an intranasal preparation in nasya therapy. It is an oil-based formulation prepared with sesame oil as the base and, according to the cited standardization literature, contains more than 25 herbal ingredients plus goat milk. Published contemporary literature describes its use mainly for upper airway and neurologic-related Ayurvedic indications, and recent exploratory work has evaluated it for allergic rhinitis, COVID-19 prophylaxis, and other respiratory or neurophysiologic applications. Its mechanism is not defined in modern drug-target terms, but preclinical studies suggest broad local antifungal and host-modulatory effects, including delayed mucorale spore germination, reduction of fungal ergosterol biosynthesis, modulation of cAMP-PKA-associated reactive oxygen species in fungi, and enhancement of host TNF-alpha-associated immune responses. It is best characterized as a traditional multi-component intranasal herbal oil rather than a single-molecule pharmaceutical entity.
