Overview

AOD9401 is a synthetic peptide fragment corresponding to the lipolytic domain of human growth hormone (hGH), specifically encompassing amino acid residues 177-191 of the carboxyl terminus. It was developed as a potential therapeutic for obesity due to its ability to stimulate hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and inhibit acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC), thereby promoting lipolysis and inhibiting lipogenesis. Unlike the full-length hGH molecule, AOD9401 does not appear to induce insulin resistance or glucose intolerance, which are common side effects of growth hormone therapy. Preclinical studies in obese Zucker rats demonstrated that chronic treatment with AOD9401 significantly reduces body weight gain and decreases the average size of adipocytes.
