Overview

AOD9604 is a synthetic peptide analog of the C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone (hGH), specifically residues 177–191 with an additional tyrosine at the N-terminus. Originally developed by Metabolic Pharmaceuticals, it was designed to retain the lipolytic (fat-burning) properties of hGH while avoiding its growth-promoting and diabetogenic effects. The peptide works by stimulating lipolysis and inhibiting lipogenesis, primarily through its interaction with the beta-3 adrenergic receptor and other pathways, without significantly increasing IGF-1 levels. Although it reached Phase 2b clinical trials for the treatment of obesity, development was largely halted after failing to demonstrate sufficient efficacy in weight loss compared to placebo in larger studies. It has also been investigated for potential regenerative effects in osteoarthritis. Currently, it is primarily available as a research chemical and is not FDA-approved for any therapeutic indication.
