Overview
AON-S08 is a preclinical-stage L-aptamer (mirror-image oligonucleotide) being developed by Aptarion Biotech AG. The drug candidate is designed as a sub-nanomolar inhibitor of interleukin-8 (IL-8), also known as CXCL8, a pro-inflammatory chemokine. As an L-aptamer, AON-S08 belongs to the class of mirror-image RNA aptamers, which are biostable oligonucleotides that bind to their target proteins with high specificity and affinity. The mechanism of action involves binding and neutralizing IL-8 (CXCL8), thereby inhibiting its pro-inflammatory signaling pathways. IL-8/CXCL8 is a key mediator of inflammation and neutrophil recruitment, making it a therapeutic target for various inflammatory conditions.
