AortaCell is a regenerative cell therapy and bioelectric medicine system developed by Leonhardt Ventures for the treatment of aortic aneurysms and other aortic diseases. The therapy utilizes specific microcurrent electrical signals to non-invasively or minimally invasively repair weakened aortic tissue. The mechanism of action involves two stages: first, applying microcurrents to the aortic wall to trigger the release of stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1), which acts as a homing signal to recruit the patient's own stem cells from bone marrow, adipose tissue, and circulation. Second, the electrical polarity is reversed to induce these recruited stem cells to differentiate into smooth muscle cells, thereby reinforcing and strengthening the aortic vessel wall. It is being developed as both a wireless external device and an endovascular catheter-based system, with applications including the repair of small aortic aneurysms, reinforcement of aortic necks for stent graft fixation, and sealing of endoleaks.
