Overview

AP-002 is a novel, orally bioavailable small molecule drug that acts as a gallium-based inhibitor of osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption. It may also promote the growth of osteoblasts. The drug is being developed primarily for the treatment of cancer patients with bone metastases and other solid tumors, including breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), prostate cancer, and small cell lung cancer. Its mechanism involves inhibition of Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 11 (RANKL), which plays a key role in osteoclast formation and activity. The developer is Altum Pharmaceuticals (a subsidiary of BetterLife Pharma), with Lexi Pharma as the originator. Clinical trials have reached Phase 2 for several solid tumor indications.
