Overview

AP2.0 Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis is an oral, colon-targeted live biotherapeutic formulation consisting of the probiotic strain *Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis* GIM 1.207 encapsulated within an enzyme-triggered, fuse-like microcapsule known as AP2.0. This delivery system is designed to protect the probiotics from the acidic environment of the stomach and bile salts in the small intestine, ensuring targeted release in the colon where microbial enzymes trigger the degradation of the capsule. Once released, the probiotics colonize the intestinal mucosa and modulate the gut microbiota by increasing the abundance of beneficial taxa such as *Bacteroidetes* and *Firmicutes* (including *Odoribacter* and *Ruminococcaceae*). This restoration of microbial homeostasis leads to a reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines and systemic inflammation, making it a potential therapeutic candidate for the treatment of ulcerative colitis.
