AP301

AP301, also known as VS-505 and acacia-ferric oxyhydroxide, is a novel oral iron-based phosphate binder developed by Alebund Pharmaceuticals. It is designed to control serum phosphorus levels in chronic kidney disease patients receiving maintenance dialysis who suffer from hyperphosphatemia. The drug works by binding to phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract, preventing its systemic absorption. Its properties include high phosphate-binding capability, no need to chew, no volume expansion when exposed to gastric fluid, and no systemic absorption, which contribute to reduced pill burden, good tolerability, and improved patient compliance.
