Apan (PPI-1019) is a peptide-based therapeutic developed by Praecis Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It is a D-enantiomeric peptide derivative (Cholyl-LVFFA-NH2) designed to interact with beta-amyloid (Aβ) peptides. Its mechanism involves inhibiting the aggregation of Aβ and facilitating its clearance, thereby reducing nerve cell toxicity associated with amyloid plaques. Although it reached Phase II clinical trials and demonstrated safety and blood-brain barrier penetration, its development was voluntarily suspended in 2005 following a strategic restructuring at Praecis Pharmaceuticals.
