A combination therapy consisting of apatinib, docetaxel, and S-1, being evaluated as a first-line treatment for metastatic gastric cancer. Apatinib is a small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that highly selectively inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2), thereby blocking tumor angiogenesis. Docetaxel is a cytotoxic chemotherapy agent that promotes microtubule assembly and inhibits disassembly, leading to cell cycle arrest. S-1 is an oral fluoropyrimidine combination (tegafur, gimeracil, and oteracil) that acts as an antimetabolite. This specific triple combination is being investigated in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT03154983) led by Dr. Zhou Fuxiang at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University to improve progression-free survival in patients with metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma.
