The combination of apatinib and utidelone represents a therapeutic approach that has shown promise in treating certain types of cancer, particularly metastatic breast cancer with brain metastases. Utidelone (UTD1) is a genetically engineered epothilone analog that functions as a microtubule stabilizing agent and has demonstrated efficacy in treating various cancers, including breast cancer refractory to anthracycline and taxane regimens. It can cross the blood-brain barrier. Apatinib is a small-molecule anti-angiogenic drug. This combination has shown antitumor activity in patients with HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer with brain metastases, as demonstrated in a case report where a patient achieved a partial response and 7.6 months of progression-free survival as a fourth-line treatment.
