This is a combination therapy consisting of apatorsen, carboplatin, and gemcitabine. Apatorsen (OGX-427) is an antisense oligonucleotide designed to inhibit the production of heat shock protein 27 (Hsp27), a protein that helps cancer cells survive and resist treatment. By targeting Hsp27, apatorsen aims to disable cancer cell defenses and enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy. Carboplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that causes DNA crosslinking and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. Gemcitabine is a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis, leading to cell death. This combination has been investigated primarily in advanced cancers such as squamous cell lung cancer and metastatic bladder cancer[1][2][3][6]. The rationale for combining these agents is to improve outcomes by overcoming resistance mechanisms associated with standard chemotherapy.
