APB-R2 is a long-acting recombinant fusion protein designed as a replacement therapy for follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). It is engineered using Fab fragments that specifically bind to human serum albumin, which extends the half-life of the therapeutic protein in circulation. The drug acts as an agonist at the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR), mimicking endogenous FSH activity to stimulate spermatogenesis and support fertility. Developed by Aprilbio, often in collaboration with Severance Hospital, its primary indication is male infertility, though it has also been considered for female infertility. The technology platform (SAFA) enables prolonged systemic exposure via FcRn-mediated recycling of the Fab-albumin complex[1][2][5].
