Overview

APH-0202 is an orally bioavailable nanoformulation of betulinic acid, a naturally occurring triterpenoid, being developed by Aphios Corporation for the treatment of HIV/AIDS. It acts as an HIV maturation inhibitor by disrupting the late-stage processing of the Gag polyprotein. This interference prevents the formation of a mature, infectious viral core, resulting in defective, non-infectious virions. The drug utilizes Aphios' proprietary Critical Fluid Nanoparticle (CFN) and Protein Nanoparticle System (PNS) technologies to create nanosomes with a mean diameter of approximately 180 nm, aiming to overcome the poor oral bioavailability typically associated with betulinic acid derivatives.
