Drug intelligence / Profile preview
APH-0907 is an oral insulin formulation being developed by Aphios Corporation for the treatment of diabetes. The drug encapsulates insulin within biodegradable, hydrophobic polymer nanospheres using the proprietary Protein Nanoparticle System (PNS). This nanotechnology-based delivery system is designed to protect insulin from enzymatic degradation and acidic conditions in the stomach. Upon reaching the gut, the hydrophobic nanoparticles adhere to the intestinal cell wall lining and are transported into the bloodstream. Preclinical animal studies in diabetic mice have demonstrated that the nanoencapsulated insulin is protected during gastric transit and rapidly absorbed, resulting in significant reductions in blood glucose levels.
