APH-1902 is a therapeutic candidate developed by Aphios Corporation for the mitigation of ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) during organ transplantation, with a primary focus on kidney transplantation. It consists of a hydrogen sulfide (H2S) donor encapsulated within a nanoparticle delivery system using Aphios' proprietary Critical Fluid Technology. Hydrogen sulfide is a gasotransmitter that provides potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective effects. By delivering H2S in a controlled manner directly to the transplant graft or systemically to the recipient, APH-1902 aims to improve organ viability, enhance transplantation success rates, and increase the availability of donor organs. The project has received support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for preclinical development, including evaluation in porcine models of donation after circulatory death (DCD) kidney transplantation.
