APHD-012 is an investigational oral drug formulation developed by Aphaia Pharma for the treatment of prediabetes, impaired glucose tolerance in type 2 diabetes patients, and obesity. The drug consists of coated dextrose beads engineered to release glucose specifically in the distal jejunum (lower small intestine), using Aphaia’s proprietary technology. This targeted delivery is designed to restore and maximize nutrient-sensing responses in intestinal cells and activate hormone signaling pathways that are often blunted in prediabetic individuals. By doing so, APHD-012 aims to improve glucose tolerance and potentially slow or reverse progression from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes. Clinical trials have shown that a once-daily dose of APHD-012 significantly improves outcomes on the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) compared with placebo, particularly among prediabetic patients. No serious adverse events were reported during clinical studies[1][2][4][5].
