Apigenin 3-acetate is a semi-synthetic derivative of the natural flavonoid apigenin, in which an acetyl group is introduced at the 3-position of the molecule. Like its parent compound, it belongs to the class of flavones and exhibits bioactive properties. Preclinical studies have compared apigenin 3-acetate with both unmodified apigenin and methylprednisolone for their effects on immune cell proliferation and gene expression, particularly in Th1 cells relevant to autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Apigenin derivatives are generally known for anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory activities; however, specific mechanistic data for apigenin 3-acetate remain limited. The modification may alter pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic properties compared to native apigenin[9].
