Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Apigeninidin chloride (also known as gesneridin chloride or 3-desoxypelargonidin) is a natural 3-deoxyanthocyanidin flavonoid pigment abundantly found in sorghum (*Sorghum bicolor*) grains and leaf sheaths. It exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties. In preclinical research, apigeninidin chloride has been investigated for its neuroprotective effects in Alzheimer's disease models, where it inhibits amyloid-beta (Aβ42) aggregation, disrupts β-sheet structures, and restores mitochondrial function. It has also shown in vitro efficacy against *Toxoplasma gondii* tachyzoites by inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and disrupting mitochondrial membrane potential.
