Overview

Apilarnil is a natural bee product derived from the entire contents of 6-8 day old drone (male bee) brood cells, which is then typically lyophilized (freeze-dried). [19] It is not a synthetic pharmaceutical but is used in apitherapy as a nutraceutical supplement. [1] Its composition is a complex mixture of proteins, all essential amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins (A, D, E, B-complex), minerals, and natural hormones, including testosterone, progesterone, estradiol, and prolactin. [5, 10] Due to its contents, it is considered the male equivalent of royal jelly. [3, 19] Apilarnil has been investigated for various potential therapeutic uses, such as its anabolic, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, and adaptogenic actions. [10] It is primarily marketed as a supplement for androgen deficiency, to enhance libido and erectile function, and as an immunomodulator. [11, 14] Research has also explored its potential for neuroprotection, improving cardiovascular health, and reducing inflammation. [13, 15]
