Overview
Apilipex is an atypical antipsychotic medication containing aripiprazole as the active ingredient, developed and marketed by the Egyptian pharmaceutical company APEX Pharma. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia, manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, and as an adjunctive therapy for major depressive disorder. Pharmacologically, it acts as a "dopamine-serotonin system stabilizer" due to its unique profile as a partial agonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, and an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. This mechanism allows it to modulate neurotransmitter activity, providing efficacy against both positive and negative symptoms of psychosis while maintaining a relatively favorable side effect profile compared to older antipsychotics.
