Overview

Apixaban + bevacizumab is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used concomitantly, primarily in patients with cancer who require both anticoagulation and anti-angiogenic therapy. Apixaban is an oral small molecule anticoagulant that selectively inhibits Factor Xa, thereby interrupting the coagulation cascade and reducing the risk of thromboembolic events. Bevacizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), inhibiting angiogenesis and tumor blood vessel formation. This combination may be used in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) or other malignancies where bevacizumab is indicated, particularly when there are comorbidities requiring anticoagulation such as venous thromboembolism or atrial fibrillation. Clinical data suggest that while bleeding risk exists—especially epistaxis—the rate of major bleeding events leading to treatment discontinuation remains relatively low in patients not also taking aspirin[1][2][6]. No increase in adverse thrombotic events has been observed with this combination[1][2].
