Drug intelligence / Profile preview
APJ agonist antibody is a novel single-domain antibody (nanobody) that acts as a potent agonist of the apelin receptor (APJ). Developed by JiKang Therapeutics, with BioAge Labs holding an exclusive option to in-license the program, the nanobody is reported to be at least 10-fold more potent than apelin, the natural ligand of APJ, with an EC50 comparable to best-in-class small molecule APJ agonists. It is being developed as a long-acting biologic candidate for the treatment of obesity and other metabolic diseases. Preclinical studies have shown that APJ agonism can enhance weight loss when combined with GLP-1 receptor agonists, while also improving muscle function and body composition.
