Overview

APJ Parenteral is a long-acting biologic agonist of the apelin receptor (APJ) currently in preclinical development by BioAge Labs for the treatment of obesity. Designed as an 'exercise mimetic,' the drug targets the apelin pathway to replicate the metabolic benefits of physical activity, such as increased energy expenditure and improved muscle function. It is intended for once-weekly subcutaneous administration, particularly in combination with incretin-based therapies like GLP-1 receptor agonists. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that adding APJ agonism to GLP-1 therapy can significantly enhance weight loss while preserving lean muscle mass and restoring healthy body composition. The program includes a nanobody candidate licensed from JiKang Therapeutics, with an Investigational New Drug (IND) application planned for 2026.
