Overview

APL-2301 is a novel, first-in-class small molecule antibiotic developed by Asieris Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of infections caused by *Acinetobacter baumannii*, including carbapenem-resistant *Acinetobacter baumannii* (CRAB). Formerly known as ASN-1733 and MET-102, the drug features a unique mechanism of action that has not been publicly disclosed. Preclinical research has demonstrated that APL-2301 exhibits potent antimicrobial activity against various clinical isolates of *A. baumannii*. In December 2023, the drug received approval from Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to commence Phase I clinical trials, marking its entry into first-in-human studies to evaluate safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy adult subjects.
