APL-509 (formerly known as CBT-509) is a monoclonal antibody designed to target the Cytotoxic T-Lymphocyte Associated Protein 4 (CTLA-4), an immune checkpoint receptor that downregulates T-cell activation. Developed by Apollomics, Inc. (formerly CBT Pharmaceuticals), APL-509 acts as a checkpoint inhibitor by blocking the interaction between CTLA-4 and its ligands, CD80 and CD86, on antigen-presenting cells. This blockade prevents the inhibitory signal to T cells, thereby enhancing the immune system's ability to mount a robust anti-tumor response. The drug is part of Apollomics' immuno-oncology pipeline, intended for potential use as a monotherapy or in combination with other agents, such as PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitors, to treat various solid tumors.
