Overview

APL180 (also known as L-4F) is a synthetic peptide that acts as an apolipoprotein A-I mimetic. It was developed by Novartis for the treatment of coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular disorders. The drug is designed to mimic the function of apolipoprotein A-I, the main protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), thereby improving HDL's anti-inflammatory activity and potentially reducing atherosclerosis. Its mechanism involves binding oxidized lipids with high affinity, which may enhance HDL function and reduce inflammation associated with cardiovascular disease. Clinical studies included intravenous and subcutaneous administration in patients with coronary heart disease; however, despite being well tolerated, it did not show significant improvement in key biomarkers in human trials[1][2][3][5].
