Drug intelligence / Profile preview
APL510 is a sustained-release (prolonged-release) formulation of melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone that regulates circadian rhythms and the sleep-wake cycle. Developed by Alliance Pharmaceuticals, APL510 acts as an agonist at the melatonin MT1 and MT2 receptors to promote sleep and normalize circadian patterns. The drug was specifically investigated in a Phase II double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized, cross-over clinical study in elderly subjects with insomnia, evaluating the efficacy of 1.5 mg and 3.0 mg doses in normalizing sleep patterns and improving sleep quality.
