Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aplazar is a renal nutritional supplement developed by Steadfast Medishield, containing alpha-ketoanalogues of essential amino acids. It is specifically indicated for the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages I, II, and III, particularly for patients on conservative management with a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) below 25 ml/min. The supplement works by providing essential amino acids in their keto-acid forms, which allows the body to recycle nitrogenous waste (urea) through transamination. This process converts the keto-analogues into their corresponding essential amino acids while reducing blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels and alleviating uremic symptoms. When used in conjunction with a low-protein or very low-protein diet, Aplazar helps delay the progression of renal failure and the transition to dialysis.
