APMS-A647 is a research-grade, micron-sized multifunctional amorphous silica particle (APMS) conjugated with the Alexa-647 fluorophore. Developed by researchers at the University of Vermont and Dartmouth College, it serves as a diagnostic and tracking tool to evaluate the biodistribution and tumor-retention properties of the APMS drug delivery platform. The APMS platform is designed for the localized delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs to treat chemoresistant malignancies, such as malignant mesothelioma, by facilitating high uptake in tumor cells while minimizing systemic toxicity. Preclinical studies in mouse and rat models have demonstrated that these particles are effectively retained within tumor tissues following subcutaneous or intraperitoneal administration and are primarily cleared through the renal system without inducing significant organ toxicity or inflammation.
