Overview

APMS-Gd is a gadolinium-modified multifunctional amorphous silica microparticle (APMS) developed as a diagnostic imaging agent and drug delivery platform. The microparticles are designed for localized delivery of chemotherapeutic agents, particularly for chemoresistant tumors like malignant mesothelioma. The gadolinium modification allows for in vivo visualization of the particles' biodistribution using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Research conducted by the University of Vermont and Dartmouth College demonstrated that these particles, when administered locally (intraperitoneally or subcutaneously), are retained by tumor cells and cleared via urine without causing significant inflammation or necrosis in major organs.
