APMS-MB-A488 is an experimental multifunctional amorphous silica microparticle (APMS) conjugated with an anti-mesothelin antibody (MB) and an Alexa Fluor 488 fluorophore (A488). Developed by researchers at the University of Vermont and Dartmouth College, it is designed for the targeted imaging and localized delivery of agents to mesothelin-expressing tumors, such as malignant mesothelioma. The anti-mesothelin antibody provides specificity for tumor cells, while the silica particle serves as a carrier that can be loaded with chemotherapeutic drugs. In preclinical models, APMS-MB-A488 demonstrated selective accumulation in intraperitoneal mesothelioma tumors and was found to be cleared through the urine without inducing significant organ toxicity.
