APn.2 is an engineered bacteriophage-based antibacterial therapy developed by SASPiPhi using the proprietary SASPject platform. It is specifically designed to target and eliminate *Acinetobacter baumannii*, a Gram-negative pathogen frequently associated with multi-drug resistant (MDR) hospital-acquired infections. The SASPject technology utilizes modified bacteriophages as delivery vectors to inject a gene encoding Small Acid-Soluble Spore Proteins (SASP) into the target bacterial cells. Once expressed, these proteins bind non-specifically and saturably to the bacterial DNA, effectively halting DNA replication and transcription. This mechanism leads to rapid bacterial cell death and is independent of the pathogen's existing antibiotic resistance mechanisms. APn.2 is currently in the lead optimization stage of preclinical development.
