Drug intelligence / Profile preview
APOHEALTH Cold Sore Patches are over-the-counter topical patches designed to provide discreet, cosmetic coverage and protection for cold sores (herpes labialis). Marketed by Arrotex Pharmaceuticals and Apotex in Australia, these invisible, disposable patches contain Melaleuca alternifolia leaf oil (tea tree oil) embedded in an acrylates copolymer adhesive matrix. The patches function by creating a moist, protective microenvironment over the lesion to promote healing, relieve pain and discomfort, and prevent secondary bacterial contamination. Additionally, tea tree oil exerts direct virucidal activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) by disrupting the viral envelope and preventing viral adsorption to host cells.
