Drug intelligence / Profile preview
APOPROSTAT forte is a herbal urological medication developed and marketed by Apogepha Arzneimittel GmbH for the symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The active ingredient is a phytosterol complex (65 mg per capsule, containing at least 70% β-sitosterol) extracted from maritime pine bark (*Pinus pinaster*). It is indicated for mild to moderate lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with BPH, such as frequent urination, nocturia, and weak urinary stream. The drug exerts its effects through multiple mechanisms, including anti-inflammatory activity, modulation of growth factors in prostate cells, and reduction of edema (water retention) in the prostate tissue. It is available as an over-the-counter (OTC) medication in Germany and represents the highest phytosterol concentration available on the German market for LUTS/BPH treatment.
