Aprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) being developed by Guangdong Anno Pharmaceutical, primarily as a generic version of ilaprazole. It is formulated as enteric-coated tablets for the treatment of gastric acid-related conditions such as duodenal ulcers and reflux esophagitis. The drug's mechanism of action involves the irreversible inhibition of the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system, also known as the gastric proton pump, located in the parietal cells of the stomach. By blocking this final step in the acid secretion pathway, aprazole effectively reduces gastric acidity. It has been the subject of bioequivalence studies in China, comparing it to the reference drug ilaprazole to ensure therapeutic equivalence.
