aprindine

Aprindine is a long-acting Class Ib antiarrhythmic agent used primarily for the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias and, to a lesser extent, supraventricular arrhythmias. It acts by directly interfering with depolarization of the cardiac cell membrane through blockade of fast inward sodium channels, thereby reducing the rate of rise of the action potential and shortening repolarization. This elevates the fibrillation threshold and shortens the QT interval. Aprindine is effective when administered orally or intravenously and may be particularly useful in conditions such as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. The drug is not approved in the United States but is available in some European countries and Japan[1][3][4][5][7][8].
