Overview
APSMNF 1 is an investigational herbal drug candidate developed by the Brazilian pharmaceutical company Apsen Farmaceutica S.A. for the treatment of male androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness). It is a standardized botanical extract derived from *Serenoa repens* (Saw Palmetto), which is known to act as an inhibitor of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the primary androgen implicated in the miniaturization of hair follicles in androgenetic alopecia. APSMNF 1 is currently being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials (e.g., NCT04442334) to establish its efficacy and safety compared to existing *Serenoa repens* formulations like Eniagor. The development of APSMNF represents an effort to provide a regulated, pharmaceutical-grade botanical option for hair loss management.
