Drug intelligence / Profile preview
APT-001 refers to at least two distinct investigational drugs in development by different companies for different indications and with differing modalities. 1. One version of APT-001, developed by Aptol Pharma, is a citrullinated cyclic peptide aptamer formulated in a hyaluronic acid/chitosan nanoparticle. It is being investigated as an immunomodulatory antirheumatic agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Its mechanism of action is described as immunomodulation, likely through interaction with immune system components[1]. 2. Another version of APT-001, associated with Aperta Biosciences LLC (and possibly Aptah Bio), is described as a small molecule drug under investigation for the treatment of blepharitis (an eye disease). This formulation has reached clinical trials and was studied in a Phase 2 randomized controlled trial as a topical therapy for blepharitis[3][4]. The specific mechanism of action or molecular target for this small molecule version has not been disclosed in public sources.
