Drug intelligence / Profile preview
APT001 is a preclinical-stage drug candidate being developed by Aptol Pharma for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, primarily rheumatoid arthritis (RA), with potential applications in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Type 1 Diabetes. The therapeutic consists of a citrullinated cyclic peptide aptamer incorporated into a biodegradable nanoparticle composed of hyaluronic acid and chitosan. APT001 is designed to target citrullinated antigens (cyclic citrullinated peptides/CCP) and modulate the activity of regulatory B cells and regulatory T cells to restore immune tolerance and homeostasis. The nanoparticle formulation stabilizes the peptide aptamer and facilitates its uptake by immune cells such as neutrophils and monocytes, enabling delivery to sites of inflammation.
