Apta-2 is a preclinical-stage RNA-based aptamer therapeutic being developed by Aptahem AB for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. As a synthetic nucleic acid polymer, it is designed to bind to specific molecular targets with high affinity and specificity. Apta-2 is derived from the same Plasmodium protein as Aptahem's lead candidate, Apta-1, but is structurally distinct. The company is currently conducting fingerprinting studies to characterize its mechanism of action and evaluate its potential overlap with Apta-1, which has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, and immunomodulating properties. Apta-2 has been manufactured on a small scale for initial discovery and preclinical studies.
