Overview

APTC-C-SA01 is an investigational biologic therapy comprising a cocktail of four lytic bacteriophages specifically isolated to target *Staphylococcus aureus*, including methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA). Developed by the Central Adelaide Local Health Network, this topical therapy is administered intranasally for the treatment of therapy-refractory chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). The phages function by binding to the bacterial cell wall, injecting their genetic material, and inducing lysis of the host bacteria, which effectively reduces bacterial load and disrupts recalcitrant biofilms. It has been evaluated in investigator-initiated clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy in patients who have failed standard medical and surgical treatments.
