APX2014 is a novel, potent small molecule inhibitor of reduction-oxidation factor 1-apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (Ref-1/APE1). It was initially developed by Apexian Pharmaceuticals. The drug specifically inhibits the redox signaling and DNA repair activities of APE1/Ref-1, which plays a key role in regulating transcription factors involved in angiogenesis and inflammation. Preclinical studies have shown that APX2014 blocks cell proliferation, induces apoptosis via PARP cleavage, and more potently inhibits APE1/Ref-1-induced transcription factor DNA binding than related compounds such as APX3330. Its primary area of investigation is for retinal diseases, particularly those involving neovascularization and inflammation[1][2][3][9].
