APX2051 is a preclinical-stage small molecule drug candidate developed by Apexian Pharmaceuticals. It specifically targets the redox function of the multifunctional protein APE1/Ref-1 (Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1/Redox factor-1). APE1/Ref-1 is overexpressed in many aggressive cancers and plays a critical role in regulating transcription factors such as NFκB, HIF1α, STAT3, and AP-1, which are involved in tumor growth, survival, and inflammatory processes. By inhibiting the redox signaling activity of APE1/Ref-1, APX2051 aims to modulate these downstream pathways to treat a variety of conditions, including advanced solid tumors, ocular diseases (such as diabetic retinopathy), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and neuropathy.
